Gold Mountain (2026 - )

Gold Mountain explores cultural inheritance through the ordinary objects of Asian American life. Fortune cookies, takeout boxes, and mahjong tiles become ways of thinking about family, identity, luck, and belonging.

The series of oil paintings is rooted in my family’s history in San Francisco, where my great-grandfather arrived more than a century ago and my father was born in Chinatown. I’m interested in what these familiar objects carry across generations, and how their meanings change depending on who is looking.

Gold Mountain is an ongoing series. Click the images below to learn more about each painting.
