Mint It’s-It
oil on wood panel (framed) | 6 × 6 in (15 × 15 cm)
Mint It’s-It was my favorite ice cream sandwich as a kid. The original It’s-It was created in 1928 by George Whitney at San Francisco’s Playland-at-the-Beach amusement park, with the mint flavor introduced in the 1980s. In this painting, I used a palette knife to capture the texture of the ice cream, contrasting its cool mint green with the warm browns of the cookies and chocolate coating. As part of my Created in California series, this painting celebrates a San Francisco invention that became part of my own childhood.
