Pride
oil on canvas | 24 × 30 in (61 × 76 cm)
The lion is often the symbol of strength, but lionesses do much of the work of hunting and sustaining the pride. I painted this lioness to draw attention to a quieter kind of power: the strength of those whose contributions are essential, even when they aren’t always recognized.
